If you’re new to the pinterest marketing world, you might not know that there are now different types of pinterest pins: static pins, video pins, and now idea pins.
Idea pins are pretty new and just became available to all creators after originally launching in mid-2020. When Pinterest first launched Idea Pins, they were called “Story Pins,” in case you may have heard some rumblings about story pins and are a little confused now. đŸ˜‰
Idea pins are a series of pins that are usually design/outfit/[whatever topic you talk about] ideas. We’ve seen bloggers post food recipe steps here, as well as interior designers sharing different views of their decor projects and home renovations. It’s similar to the Instagram story feature on Instagram, but unlike Instagram and regular pinterest pins, you can’t link to another website. Here is an example.
Because idea pins are a new feature to Pinterest, Pinterest really wants you to start posting them. You’re probably going to receive more views on a pinterest idea pin set than a static pin because of this reason—Pinterest will reward you taking advantage of the feature by showing your idea pin set to a bigger audience.
Not only will you grow your profile faster, but idea pins are a great place for you to share free tips and encourage pinterest users to follow you on the platform. That’s why we recommend adding in a “follow us for more tips” on your last idea pin slide.
Posting an idea pin set is fairly straightforward!
First, make a few slides. We highly recommend using our Pinterest story pin template set here for ideas! đŸ˜‰
After you have exported those slides from either Photoshop or Canva, you’ll upload them into pinterest. Go to Create > Create Idea Pin.
Next, press “create new” and upload your idea pin pages. Below, you can see pages from our template.
Press next, and add a title, pick a board for your pin, and choose up to 10 tags that match your idea pin topic. We recommend using all 10 tags if possible.
Hit publish, and you did it! Now, go publish your favorite idea pin ideas—and we highly recommend checking out our beautiful, customizable idea pin templates for canva to get those ideas flowing. đŸ™‚ Enjoy!
