Creating Mood Boards for Books I’ve Read Recently

mood board for Every Time I Go On Vacation, Someone Dies

August 15, 2024

Earlier this year I set a challenge for myself to read 25 books over 2024. I’m currently at 23, with two books almost finished, so I think I will surpass that goal this year!

Here are some books that I’ve read recently that I liked and thought deserved a little mood board action. I like that mood boards help you get a sense of the feeling that’s woven throughout the book and a grounding for their settings. And as a graphic designer myself, it’s so fun to explore all of these themes visually. Let me know if you want to read any of these books after seeing these!

Every Time I Go on Vacation, Someone Dies by Catherine Mack

I read this book after randomly grabbing it at my local library. I had low expectations for it, but it was entertaining nonetheless and I’d love to read more of this series. If you like beach read thriller/mysteries, this one is for you!

Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson

My husband really loved this book so I picked it up from his recommendation. I thought it was such a cozy, sweet adventure story!

The God of the Woods by Liz Moore

I read this for my local July book club and I thought it was a nice thriller with character development. It think it could’ve been shortened by 100 pages but it still kept my interest nonetheless.

Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

This was a book I actually read in January 2023 but it’s one of my favorites as of recent. I loved learning more about what goes into building video games and having it set in the 1990s was such a treat. I cried!

Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel

One of my favorite books I read this year, this book was so beautifully written. I loved the mystery that tied it all together and the characters felt so real despite being such a short read.
